Bill Swaney
Department Head / Environmental Science Instructor

Bill Swaney is the department head for Natural Resources, which includes the Environmental Science and Forestry degree programs. He is a lifelong resident of the Flathead Reservation and a graduate of the University of Montana in Wildlife Biology. His Master's Thesis looked at the effects of predators on ground-nesting bird communities and he remains interested in this topic today.

Bill's current interests and involvement include aquatic and riparian systems and research into their ecology, which he has done in collaboration with the University of Montana for the past several years. Bill hopes to aid in the development of research and educational opportunities for students in the department by similar collaborations in future years.

When he is not teaching or thinking about teaching, Bill spends as much time as possible in the outdoors, pursuing fishing opportunities across the state of Montana. His motto, along with that of anglers of all persuasions, is "any fish, any day".
